True, the scene as a whole doesn't change but only the visible are being calculated & displayed while the rest being cut. At least that how it worked in the past. If the gamer turns his head everything needs to be calculated anew. *shrugs*

Yeah, there's this age-old z-buffer & w-buffer, and one-ahead-frame buffer, dunno about any other. Now, that you mention tweaking this was what supposedly happen with the new Aliens: colonial Marines game.
Really, I looking forward to it but it seems to fail.

MS is going to reveal tech data these days for the XBox One.
    http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/05/microsoft-announces-its-next-console-the-xbox-one/

"5 billion transistors and 8GB of RAM," 64-bit architecture, USB 3.0, a Blu-ray player, and "variable power states."
    <_<
Nearly worthless & unimpressive information so far.
We got 3.2 billion transistors in 40nm GPU in 2010(3 years ago). Today it should be like 10 billion.

Looks like XBox One can't compete with this.
