    About the Ilysr Kingdom

Post by Runelord on 2/12/2017, 8:18 pm

EDIT: Hello forum. First time poster here and a long time fan of the series.

I do not quite realize how Ilysr kingdom surrounds the galaxy.
Seikai Wiki says that gate locations in plane space do not correspond to those in normal space, that there seems to be no logical order to them. Also, in normal space they are arranged in the rings and not so in plane space.
Why then is Ilysr kingdom's territory in plane space shaped like a ring?
How did Abh use their "only frontier sord" to take control of entire twelfth ring of sords?

Could someone shed some light on this?

    Welcome to the forum.

Well, it's not explained in such detail as far as I know or maybe there is somewhere I don't know or in a (doubtful) fan-created-book. So this is just my interpretation:

I think Morioka cheated artistically or for story reasons,
but in this case you could explain it like how math simplifies a network graphically
or how subway maps are drawn
or how it's applied to the solar system

It's said that since only a small number of those outer 12th ring sords lead to the Ilyrs Kingdom. Therefore, in order to get to the kingdom you have to find such a sord first. And since these sords all lie within the Ilyrs kingdom of the plane space side it's far easier to find them in plane space than scurrying the galaxy at sublight speed.
This is generally true in this universe. It's far easier to look for a sord from plane space side than searching in normal space. It's also possible to open a closed sord from plane space as they did prior to invading the Hyde system & planet Martine.

Also to add on to it to help contextualize it the way I picture it, I believe there was an article on the wiki that explained that regular space positions do not correlate to planar space positions. So there are a handful of gates in plane space that "surround" the galaxy in a ring. These simply represent the corridor that is the fastest path between these worlds all in the same ring and key gates within the galaxy.

I imagine if these gates are the outermost of the planar galaxy, and surround the milky way, the Empire's instance to defend them or bar access would inhibit planar extra-galactic exploration and trade. This knowledge would be exclusively Abh, which poses an existential threat to the Four Nations.

That generalization may not help. Let me know, or maybe someone will correct me of course.

The novels have mentioned the speculation on extra-galactic sords in the 12th ring but it seems Morioka just made that as notion to keep possibilities open. It's none the less canon fact. So yeah, whoever rules the Ilyr kindgom's territory has access to extra-galactic locations wherever that may be.
