    Recommendations?

Post by Schwenkdawg on 4/11/2009, 4:37 am

    sup ya'll

I'm stuck at college over easter weekend, bored out of my mind because all my friends are either at home with their families or out with their girlfriends all weekend, so i figure its anime time (because i finished beating CoD: WaW on veteran today). As such, what anime would ya'll recommend from looking at my top 5:

    1: Evangelion
    1: CotS/BotS
    3: School Rumble (1 and 2)
4: SHUFFLE! (just the first one)
5: Trinity Blood/Chrno Crusade (cant decide which)

    thanks for the recommendations!

This one is a hard ...considering we're at KOTS forum and COTS/BOTS is in your list Wink

I won't suggest you much since i only seen 1,2 and 5 among these and i only truly liked 2, but what i CAN suggest is that you pick the one that will serve your current or desired mood in best way posible.
I always know when i want fantasy or when i want space/sci-fi, or i want some mindless fun anime like DearS etc. Choose based on time of day and mood. For example - watching space or night anime when it's day is no good.

Well Dual! parallel trouble adventure, since you're
a EVA fan. It'll either open you up to other ideas or
you'll be screaming "it's a rip off arrgh!"

Trust me, 'tween mitsukilover and me we know there's
only two categories. In reality there's a lot more to the whole series and multiverse thing than you might expect from only seeing the tv show.

The latter 3 of the 5 I've not seen, so kinda hard
to say one way or another.

Um I dunno, for the sake of something classic, Howl's Moving Castle or Castle in the Sky?

Serial Experiments Lain, Paranoia Agent, or Boogiepop Phantom will wring your brain out and puree it with a blender if you're into that 'EVA is utterly confusing' type thing.

Ghost in the Shell or Last Exile you can't really go wrong with.

Read or Die is sort of a enjoyable distraction. Watch the OVA then the TV, not the other way around as it's one timeline. Gets much more interesting towards the last 12 eps or so.

Aside from Dual and Neon Genesis Evangelion I recommend the following Mecha series:
    *RahXephon
    *Big O
*Giant Robo,a classic and don't let the seeming cartoony look of the series fool you it's one of the must see animes out there.
    *Gad Guard
    Other non-Mecha series:
*Cowboy Bebop,of course everyone has to watch this one since for some people it's a test of your otakudom if you've seen it! lol!
    *Kiddy Grade
    *Bubble Gum Crisis
*Excel Saga, for the sheer lunacy of it all!
    *Hellsing Ultimate
*Ghost In The Shell:Stand Alone Complex
*Tenchi, again another classic you have to see if you haven't already.
*Finally:Death Note The Movie.Yes,it's live action but it is so incredible to watch.

    hmm, good recommendations...

ive already seen alot of em, actually Razz . I've seen Last Exile and all the Ghibli movies, etc. For some really strange reason, i STILL, after god knows how many years, havent seen Cowboy Bebop. Call me crazy, i guess. I'll also look for "Dual! Parallel trouble adventure". Thanks for the recommendations! If anyone has anything else to recommend, please share with mee!!!

PS: I have also never seen Trigun. Worth it, yes or no?

After you see both Trigun and Cowboy Bebop (there's also a movie that fits in the timeline) you should see the AMV "Tainted Donuts" it's really well done and funny.

If you don't see them first... you won't get it though.

I forgot Full Metal Panic. That's another great series that has mecha in it,though it's not as much about the mecha as it is the relationships between Kaname,Sousuke and Tessa. cheers

Shuffle 1 (just titled SHUFFLE!) was actually pretty good. I watched it thinking i was gunna end up watching another mindless harem anime, and although that is indeed what about 1/2 to 2/3 of it was, the last half of the show was...honestly, much deeper than i had expected. If you've ever seen "kimi ga nozumo eien" or "green green" imagine the more depressing/heartwrenching parts from those shows, and thats what the second half of SHUFFLE! is like. Although, since it is an anime derived from a porno game, there is the prerequisite amount of fan service and whatnot. I'd recommend it, if only because the main male character does something that totally cements him in my "total badasses for life" category in the last few episodes.I dont know how to do the hidey spoiler text here, so i wont spoil it for ya unless you want me to

poll of what I should buy next.
Have you seen or read Gunsmith Cats?
I forget if that was on your list or if you have mentioned it before.I have vol.1 of the compilation manga.

on the right side of the list of tag items, there's one Other, click on that and in the list is Spoiler.

    Makes this -

Well I have tried that and it doesn't seem to be working right now.
Back to the subject at hand:
Yeah,Gundam 00 would be a good one to see. They recently aired season 1 on Sci Fi's
Ani-Monday block.Code Geass is another good mecha series to check out. It's kinda Gundam Seed Lite. Also a bit of Death Note thrown in as many people compare Lelouch to Light.
Speaking of Death Note there's a new series coming out called Death Note Re-Light volume 1 is called Visions of a God and is the series from Ryuk's POV.

    Spoiler:
tough. ok so essentially in SHUFFLE!, the worlds of gods and demons have spilled over onto earth. just roll with it because it will kinda make sense. As such, some humans who had offspring with gods or demons had kiddies with magic. The girl the main character finally settles on is one of these girls, but he doesnt know it until the very end, when her mom tells him. She's been getting sicker and sicker because she wont use her magic (which is healing based), and is about to die from magical overload. So, our protagonist forces her to use her healing magic by slitting his wrists, therby saving her life and becoming a total badass for risking his life for her

sweet. Theres the spoiler for SHUFFLE!. I guarantee it'll make more sense if you just watch the show. Lets see, i havent seen Gundam 00, Gunsmith Cats, or Code Geass, so i'll check em out as well.

Gunsmith Cats is one of the unique classics. You have probably seen copied character thereof, imaging a group of freelance detectives (females) with a thing for cars and weapons.
So they do some crazy stuff for money or what they think is right.

Shuffle: Do you like girls? Do you like magical girls? Romance? Overprotective parents who get on the nerves of their children and get smacked? Some cat fight/competition? Past childhood lover stories? Well, it's all there.

Yeah Zinv it might be a Java thing.(And why DO they call it Java...somehow makes me thirsty for another cup of coffee! confused lol! )
Back on topic:Gunsmith Cats is also set in
Chicago, the funny thing is the creator of it(as far as I remember)had never been to Chicago before.
There's also a spin-off series called Riding Bean which features the main male character from Gunsmith Cats.

Oh, and another great (and HILARIOUS) show with lots of girls and a love link plot that looks like chainmail-School Rumble. I mentioned it before (i think), and it was actually pretty damn funny

Alamel is right though, SHUFFLE really doesnt press any new boundaries, but hell, it was entertaining for a while

I think the only one nuttier than her, thus far,is
    Harima. Laughing
Though why Kurasama remains so clueless as to Tenma liking him I don't get. confused
