    Some Good Romantic-ish?

    Post by tanis1lionheart on 6/16/2009, 4:02 pm

Romantic animes, or animes with a nice little love story in them.

    Got any favs?

Obviously, BFotS is gonna be the first to mention, beyond that...

Dears - Manga is far superior than the anime

Chobits - Manga is a little better than anime.

Escaflowne - Series, good. Manga ok. Movie....I'd be ban if I gave you my real views on it.

Clanned - First season is cute; got kind of dark later.

You have been sentenced to death in absence due to heresy. lol!

Depends on what you define as romantism and what sort of love story.
Mitsuki here, is the expert on romantism and girls. Laughing

    My favs and recommendations:
Ranma, Miyuki, KOR, Maison Ikkoku, Sazan (3x3 eyes), Marmalade Boy, Basara, Fushigi Yugi, Hana Yori Dango, Ayashi no Ceres, Angel Sanctuary, etc.

These cover two-, three-some, x girls-1 guy, x guys-1 girl, sister-brother, girl vs guy enemies, slave-princess etc. These should satify all your needs for life, except special cases.
    Sorry, no yaoi.

Karin - It's pretty cute story about a girl vampire who actually MAKES blood and is a day walker. Kind of surprised me, almost hoped for a 2nd season.

To Love Ru - lots of TnA, but a cute little story about an alien and a boy. Simple formula but it's cute none the less.

Rosario+Vampire - Boy winds up in a school for monsters, vampire chick loves his blood and likes him. A quick little harem appears and stuff happens. It's cute and REALLY needs a 3rd season.

Zero no Tsukaima - Wizard girl from another world summons failure who happens to be a teenage boy. Again, sort of a harem and love triangles appear. War, death, betrayal, boobies. It's a cute, if flustering anime/manga. MUST have a 4th season.

The Hating Girl - Ok, this is a REALLY weird one. Boy meets girl in class, she has an arrow stuck through her head. She's also kind of a bitch. But, that's only on the outset...
Manga deals with their young relationship and the trials and weird-ness that goes on.
I personally liked how this manga was more realistic than most, there's no 'big boobed rival' or 'silent but sanky friend' crap. It's pretty 'normal' as far as manga relationships go.

Asagiri no Miko aka Shrine of the Morning Mist has a sweet little love story in it between Yuzu and her cousin Hiro in it.Plus it has elements of horror and comedy has well as being a Magic Girl series.
And let's not forget the entire Hyatt/Watanabe storyline in Excel Saga, granted the entire series is a parody of everything anime or pop culture in Japan, but still the Hyatt/Watanabe storyline is always interesting bit of romance thrown in...and PLEASE let's forget about the fact that Iwata throws himself on anything in a skirt...and I do mean ANYTHING!!!

I'd suggest getting a couple discs worth, the plot has one theme throughout, but about 5 episodes before they really start doing anything... even then... eh.. just.. eh.

My plan now is to wait until the end of the month and order Chobits from Rightstuf,if it's still avaible...ought to be.Right now waiting for I"s to get here.Reason it's called I"s is the three main characters all have first names begining with I: Ichitaka, the stereotypical indecisive hero of the series;Itsuki, his tomboyish bet friend;Iori, the girl that Ichitaka likes but doesn't know if she likes him as much.
The trouble for poor Ichitaka is not only can't he make up his mind between
Itsuki and Iori but also every other guy(in the manga at least)in school is lusting after Iori as well.(With the exception of Jun who is Gay.)

    The manga is far superior.

Almael on Wed Sep 02, 2009 6:41 pm wrote:Yep, the manga with the
children books story is best. Great social & psychology theme
    discussion.

I think Karin was a recreating a very old manga from
the 60's or 70's also a story about a vampire girl&family and her
differences to normal vampires∧ her love interest....

It's been a long while but wasn't there a special girl in I"s who doesn't let her love to be limited to 'anything'?

    Well,
if you are looking for a wide variety of stories then I recommend
another special collection called "Salad Days". It's also an older one
    but the art is nice.
Maybe more when I remember some by chance. Laughing

Of the 'recent' ones Pastel might be a good one. The only problem is that it feels a bit slow paced. I stopped reading quite some time back, but now continue since I got bored with the regulars. Although, the stories/events are of the same schemes seen in classics but still have some uniques to them unlike most these days. The style is also nice, not as good as I"s, though. I does have some fan service but not like the all booby new ones.
It's still on-going and I think it will be for awhile, so bring some patience along.

    Oh my
I only saw DearS, but i'm not sure it has anything to do with love Funny though - never thought i'll watch something like this. As for romance in anime - always find it too "artifical", fanservice as a rule, perfect romance in man's eyes vs realistic.. No good experience comes out of it Wink

I didn't think the first three volumes of Chobits was overly fanservicey.
I think it might depend on how you define "romantic".Certainly shows like Gad Guard,Gundam Seed,Dual, etc.could be said to have some sort of romantic elements in them.

I don't think Chobits, the manga, had too much 'fan service'.

Sure, it was there, but it was never at the level of To-Love-Ru, DearS, ect.

Of course that's true for any story not based on real events. Wink
No, fanservice was not the rule until recent decade. I'm often annoyed by too much and rarely watch those, hence, I dunno about DearS or To-Love-Ru or Ichigo. I prefer entertainment, social relationships, and cat fights. Laughing
Well, these stories are of course censored so there is no way they have everything. But then again most situations are found in one form or other, especially conflicts. The more people you know the more there will be. The true difference lies in solving them, grudges etc. since things in life are not over as in stories. Laughing

I think Tsubasa (Manga) has a good love story to it if a bit sad later on in the story. Sakura and Syaoran have a very very sad story later in the series. The anime stoped before getting into the more sad part of the story.

Kimi ni Todoke appears to be a nice 'ugly duck'/'pretty woman' type, although, not the best...

@AlexT: some more matured stories would be (already mentioned Wink )
    Maison Ikkoku
    The Living Game
    Ai Yori Aoshi

    more adult series:
    Spoiler:

    F*** censored!

Ai Yori Aoshi is a definite must have.
Maison Ikkoku would be for anyone who is a Rumiko Takahashi fanatic.
The Living Game is something I haven't heard of before.
And of course we must not forget Love Hina.

A nice but unusual one is Shippo no Tenshi better known in English as Angel Tales.
Unusual since all the girls are reincarnations of Goro's dead pets.
